SCINE and Kanyanya Urban Oasis youth host students from Rysensteen High School, Copenhagen, Denmark
When we talk about children advancing hunger action, we’re not referring only to African children, this is a global effort involving children everywhere. In the first week of October, 2025, at Kanyanya Urban Oasis, we had the coolest vibes as Sustainable Community Initiative for Empowerment (SCINE) hosted students from Rysensteen High School, Copenhagen, Denmark.
The visit focused on bringing together young climate champions from Denmark with our own amazing youths in Kanyanya, Kawempe Division, sharing ideas on how urban farming is helping us adapt to climate change under the Youth Climate Action Accelerator (YCAA) project.
Activities got hands on and fun: mixing soil, filling planters, transplanting seedlings, planting in the main garden, watering, and even harvesting - basically living the full farming cycle in one day.
The highlight? Our school’s Urban Farmers Club performed a powerful poem on urban farming that left everyone inspired.
We wrapped up with a lively Q&A, diving into how climate change is hitting our communities and the ways young people are stepping up as change makers.
